About Pachamama Eco Skin Care’s Founder: Jessica Bascuñán

Pachamama means “Mother Earth” in the Aymara language, native to South America. Aymara is an ethnic group that live in parts of the Cordillera de los Andes.

I’m Jessica Bascuñán, inspired by ancient Aymaran wisdom and modern sustainability practices.

In the beginning, things weren’t easy in New Zealand. It was a beautiful and peaceful place, but far from my people, my traditions, and my language. Jorge, my partner, worked all day, and our son, Anku, was starting school. I was alone in a house, gazing at the horizon, with no mountains in sight, wondering if it had been a good decision to come and try our luck. I decided to use what I had: my knowledge, my curiosity, and my passion for using natural products. I selected natural ingredients with proven effectiveness from scientific and academic sources. Then I researched with my knowledge of Chemistry the best combinations of natural ingredients. In Chile, my country of origin, I made homemade creams, but using ready-made formulas. It was here in New Zealand, far from my homeland, that I expanded my knowledge and began this beautiful journey, calling it Pachamama, in honor of Mother Earth, the provider, while enhancing your natural beauty.

I had been making my own cosmetics for 9 years, and when I moved to Collingwood in Golden Bay, I felt it was the perfect time to share my products with the world. I believe in my quality range of cosmetics and would like to give you the opportunity to experience the finest, small batch, locally made eco-friendly Pachamama cosmetics too. Now I have two Pachamamas, one in the land where I was born and another that I chose, here in Golden Bay.

My journey in Golden Bay

Nestled in the cozy Rockville valley, where I’ve lived for the past five years, I began studying numerology as a form of personal exploration, making connections between numbers and individual characteristics. I then started using this knowledge in the creation of my formulas, imbuing them with greater healing or rejuvenating power, depending on the product. Later, combining these numbers with my love of music, I also began incorporating different vibrational frequencies into the creation of each product (from start to finish). Since doing so, I feel a greater focus on my creations, giving them a unique strength. Furthermore, I’ve added mindfulness meditations to my daily routine, which have brought about a significant change in my daily life. So, I can proudly say that Pachamama Eco Skin Care is a unique brand line that you won’t find anywhere else. The journey that began with a strong conviction in scientific knowledge (Cartesian rationality) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartesianism and, on the other hand, in ancestral Aymara wisdom (natural instinct), is now much more integrative (holistic), where the incorporation of diverse knowledge, always welcome, makes all the difference. Our Backgound

I established Pachamama Eco Skin Care in 2020, in Golden Bay. With a background in Chemistry and lab technologies and, my partner’s bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences, Pachamama Eco Skin Care is not just me; it involves my whole family! Jorge is just brilliant, always new ideas, sciences knowledge, botanical technical support and now his new job: online marketing! (yes wow! he proclaimed it himself, and I’m so happy with it:)) and Anku, our son, with all the purity of a 5-year-old, drew what would be our first logo and now 7 years on, he is still supporting Pachamama Eco Skin Care with promotional material (He is just great!:). He’s almost 13 years old and he makes videos, he gives me ideas I wouldn’t have thought of on my own… Pachamama Eco Skin Care was mine, now it’s ours. It’s so much more than our business, it’s our way of life. It’s a demonstration of unconditional love. It’s being supported by those who love you most in the world—that’s Pachamama Eco Skin Care, and I want to share it with the whole world.
